Tracing her inspiration back to her own struggles with body image, shame and health, Olivia has never wavered on her mission to leave a better place for women and girls who continue to face similar challenges.

So she founded LÜUNA, a women-led and B Corp-certified social enterprise that makes planet-friendly period products, body literacy, and education more widely available. Today, LÜUNA’s reach has expanded, with members across Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore fighting to destigmatise menstruation and stand for period equity.

“I'M JUST NOT COMFORTABLE IN A WORLD WHERE CORPORATIONS SHAPE HOW WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BEHAVE OR FEEL. I THINK BRANDS SHOULD ADAPT TO ACCOMMODATE OUR NEEDS.”

Q: DESCRIBE YOURSELF AND WHAT YOU DO

A: I'm the founder of a Hong Kong-built social enterprise called LÜUNA. Our belief is that the world is a safer, happier, more prosperous place for all of us when women and girls are uplifted. We live in a world today where so few women and girls are equipped with the knowledge, products and resources to manage holistic wellbeing.

Q: WHAT DRIVES YOU?

For over a decade, I experienced embarrassment, shame and confusion around my body, which impacted my mental health, physical health, and even interpersonal relationships — and knowing that so many women and girls still struggle in the way that I struggled.

Q: DO YOU MIND SHARING ONE OF THOSE EXPERIENCES?

A: When I first moved to Hong Kong in 2013, tampon access and range were a bit limited. So I become what we call “a tampon mule.” Long story short, in 2015, I was muling tampons and there I was with an overweight suitcase open at the airport, a queue of people looking at this haul of tampons that I had. The depth of my embarrassment really shocked me. I couldn't get it out of my head even as I closed my suitcase and got on the flight. I was so mortified.

Q: WHAT HELPS YOU DO YOUR BEST WORK?

A: I’m most productive on a day where I don't have any speaking engagements. I can sit down in one of the cafés I love with the world going on around me, and just get lost in a piece of creative work like a campaign or article my team has asked me to write.
